RAYE stuns music world, wins 2026 Mercury Prize

British singer-songwriter RAYE has won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, outperforming prominent contenders including Paul McCartney, Florence + The Machine and Olivia Dean.

The ceremony took place at Utilita Arena in Newcastle, celebrating outstanding albums by British and Irish artists.

RAYE, whose real name is Rachel Keen, impressed the judging panel with an album that combines cinematic glamour with relatable struggles, exploring themes of love, life and hope. The record features her hit single “Where Is My Husband!” and was praised for its creative range and ability to cross musical genres.

Accepting the prestigious award, RAYE expressed her gratitude and highlighted her long-standing belief in the importance of albums as complete artistic works rather than collections of individual hit singles. She also described music as a form of medicine, emphasising the importance of hope in people’s lives.

The achievement adds another major honour to RAYE’s growing list of accomplishments. After parting ways with her former record label over restrictions on releasing her debut album, she independently released *My 21st Century Blues* in 2023. The album earned widespread acclaim and helped her make history at the 2024 BRIT Awards, where she won six awards in a single year.

This year’s victory marks RAYE’s second Mercury Prize nomination and further establishes her position among Britain’s most celebrated contemporary artists. She joins an impressive list of previous winners, including Sam Fender, Little Simz, Arlo Parks and Arctic Monkeys.
