Robbers steal Rs15m, gold in Karachi

KARACHI: Armed robbers looted 10 tolas of gold, Rs15 million in cash and foreign currency from two portions of a bungalow in Karachi’s Scheme 33, while a woman was also assaulted during the robbery.

Police said four armed suspects arrived at the bungalow in a white car and entered the property in the Sachal police station area at around 11:30am. The suspects, who were carrying sophisticated weapons, targeted both portions of the house.

The owner, identified as Hamza, a manager at a towel factory, resides on the upper floor, while the lower portion is rented out. The robbers searched both sections and took away valuables and cash.

A woman was reportedly subjected to violence after she resisted the robbers. The suspects fled the scene after completing the robbery.

Police officers reached the location after being informed and called the crime scene unit to collect forensic evidence. An investigation is underway, with police working to identify and arrest the suspects.

In a separate incident, thieves allegedly broke into a jeweller’s residence in Bantwa Town, Azizabad, during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday and stole silver valued at more than Rs80 million.

The jeweller’s family was away attending a function when the burglars broke the locks and entered the house. The theft was discovered after the family returned.

Police collected evidence from the residence and launched an inquiry into the incident. Investigators are also examining the jeweller’s business dealings as part of the initial investigation.
