The Royal Family confirms the passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha after a long illness

The Royal Family of Thailand has confirmed the heartbreaking death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The royal household released the announcement on Friday, June 12, and it immediately shocked the nation and royal supporters worldwide.

According to the statement, Princess Bajrakitiyabha died at the age of 47 after spending nearly four years in a coma. She faced a serious decline in health caused by multiple medical complications.

Doctors admitted her to Chulalongkorn Hospital under the Thai Red Cross Society in December 2022. She collapsed after suffering a sudden loss of consciousness linked to a heart condition. Since then, medical teams provided continuous and intensive care.

However, her condition continued to worsen over time. She developed several serious complications, including an intra-abdominal infection, colitis, low blood pressure, arrhythmias, and a blood clotting disorder. These conditions further weakened her health in the final stages.

Despite all efforts from doctors, her condition kept declining. She died on the evening of June 11 at 19:48 local time (12:48 GMT) at Chulalongkorn Hospital after her health reached a critical stage.

In addition, King Maha Vajiralongkorn issued a royal decree directing the Royal Household to arrange the funeral with the highest honors according to royal tradition. The Palace also decided to place her body at the Phiman Rattaya Throne Hall in the Grand Palace.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha was born on December 7, 1978. She was the daughter of King Vajiralongkorn and his first wife, Princess Soamsawali. She also stood as the eldest of the monarch’s seven children.

Furthermore, she earned a Master’s degree and a Doctorate in Law from Cornell University. After completing her education, she worked as an attorney at Thailand’s Attorney-General’s Office from 2006 to 2011.

Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to public service. She actively supported initiatives focused on female prisoners and contributed to Thailand’s diplomatic efforts abroad.

As a result, many analysts considered her a strong potential successor to the Thai throne. She earned respect for her intelligence, leadership, and commitment to social causes.
