RPO Sahiwal DIG Rana Ayaz Saleem orders inspector’s transfer after FIR at his own police station

**LAHORE:** Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sahiwal DIG **Rana Ayaz Saleem** has ordered the immediate transfer of Inspector **Waqas Ahmed** after an FIR was registered at Police Station Qabula, where the officer had previously served as Station House Officer (SHO).

The action comes as the Punjab government and police authorities continue efforts to enforce a **“Zero-Tolerance” policy against corruption, misconduct and abuse of authority** within the police department.

According to sources who spoke to *Minute Mirror*, Inspector Waqas Ahmed had earlier been posted as SHO of Police Station Qabula and was later transferred back to the same police station. Shortly after his posting, an FIR was registered at the station in connection with an alleged wrongful confinement incident. The accused in the case was subsequently arrested and sent to jail.

According to **FIR No. 6**, registered at Police Station Qabula on **September 3, 2026, at 3:53 PM**, the case involves allegations of wrongful confinement.

The FIR states that at around **10:00 AM on September 3**, ASI **Rana Muhammad Arshad (419/C)**, accompanied by other police officials, received information that **Muhammad Riaz son of Muhammad Ayoob**, a resident of Chak 48/10.R in Sahiwal district, had allegedly confined his wife inside a house.

Acting on the information, the SHO of Police Station Qabula reportedly reached the location along with police personnel. According to the FIR, the police broke open the door and entered the premises, where they allegedly found the woman locked inside a room.

The woman was subsequently recovered by the police, while Muhammad Riaz was arrested at the scene.

A case was registered against him under **Section 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC)**, pertaining to wrongful confinement, along with **Section 155-C of the Police Act**.

The FIR further stated that the accused was scheduled to be produced before the relevant court on **September 4, 2026**, for physical remand proceedings. The case was lodged by the **SHO/Investigation Officer of Police Station Qabula**.

Sources familiar with the matter said DIG **Rana Ayaz Saleem’s** decision to transfer Inspector Waqas Ahmed following the registration of the FIR reflects the department’s stated policy of taking action where questions arise regarding police conduct and administrative responsibility.

The move is also being viewed as part of wider efforts to strengthen accountability within the Sahiwal police region and reinforce the principle that disciplinary standards apply to officers irrespective of their rank or posting.

Police officials said the administration is focusing on improving transparency, ensuring merit-based postings and responding promptly to complaints involving alleged misconduct or negligence.

The RPO Sahiwal office has also directed **District Police Officers (DPOs)** across the region to closely monitor the performance and conduct of SHOs and other field officers.

Officials have been instructed to ensure that public complaints are handled **fairly, transparently and without unnecessary delay**, in line with the broader objective of improving public confidence in law-enforcement institutions.

The latest action underscores the police leadership’s stated commitment to enforcing discipline within its own ranks while ensuring that allegations of misconduct are dealt with through appropriate legal and departmental procedures.
