Rs7.5 million deal revealed in Mir Raza case as Australia-based friend testifies

A friend of Mir Raza who is currently residing in Australia, Hassan Tanoli, has recorded his statement via video link before the judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case.

ISLAMABAD: A friend of Mir Raza who is currently residing in Australia, Hassan Tanoli, has recorded his statement via video link before the judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza case.

During his statement, Tanoli told the commission that Mir Raza had borrowed Rs7.5 million for a chocolate business. According to Tanoli, Mir Raza had provided two cheques as security for the amount and assured him that the money would be returned.

Tanoli further informed the commission that Mir Raza had previously borrowed Rs1 million from him as well. He said that when Mir Raza returned the earlier amount he paid an additional Rs50,000.

According to the statement Tanoli contacted a person named Ahmed by phone on the day Mir Raza went missing. Ahmed allegedly told him that Mir Raza was missing. When Tanoli mentioned the Rs7.5 million financial matter, Ahmed reportedly responded that he had no connection with Mir Raza.

Tanoli also told the judicial commission that Mir Raza’s family had maintained that if Rs7.5 million had been invested in the business Ahmed should have been aware of the transaction. According to the family’s position presented before the commission Ahmed appeared to have disregarded or overlooked the financial issue.

The statement is being considered as part of the judicial commission’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s case. Tanoli’s testimony could potentially help investigators understand the financial dealings associated with Mir Raza and establish the sequence of events before his disappearance.

Earlier, police surgeon Dr Samia reportedly told authorities that Mir Raza had suffered a fractured nasal bone and an injury to the head. She said the injuries were sustained before his death.
