Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi could miss its expected theatrical release this year, with industry reports suggesting the project may now be pushed to 2027 due to unresolved issues affecting its release timeline.
The film, which was originally announced under the title Battle of Galwan, is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict. It was later renamed Maatrubhumi as production progressed.
According to industry insiders, the film has encountered delays after concerns were reportedly raised over certain aspects of its content, including references related to China. Although the makers have continued working to complete the remaining formalities, the release schedule remains uncertain.
A trade insider said the outstanding issues have not yet been resolved, making it increasingly difficult for the production to secure a suitable release date. The source explained that most of the major festive release windows have already been occupied by other high-profile films, limiting the available options for a large-scale theatrical launch.
The insider also highlighted Salman Khan’s long-standing approach to avoiding unnecessary box-office clashes. According to the source, while it is common in the film industry for producers to compete for the same release dates, Salman prefers not to release his films against other major titles unless absolutely necessary. Even in such situations, the actor is said to inform the other filmmakers before making any official announcement.
Another industry source suggested that the Dussehra holiday period would have been an ideal release window if the pending matters had been cleared in time. With the festive season traditionally boosting cinema attendance, the film could have benefited from an extended holiday weekend and stronger box-office collections.
However, the release calendar for October already appears crowded. Rajkummar Rao’s Raftaar is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 16, while Gunmaaster G9, starring Emraan Hashmi and Genelia Deshmukh, is also expected to release around the same period, although its official release date has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, Ramayana is reportedly targeting a later October release, leaving limited room for another major film.
If the remaining issues are not resolved soon, Maatrubhumi is expected to shift to 2027. Such a move could result in Salman Khan having two theatrical releases next year, as he is also working on director Vamshi Paidipally’s untitled film alongside Nayanthara, which is likewise expected to hit cinemas in 2027.
Neither Salman Khan nor the film’s producers have officially commented on the reported delay.
