London: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar clarified that the recently finalized agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia was not an overnight development but the result of several months of effort and negotiations. Speaking to journalists in London, Dar said that Saudi Arabia is equally satisfied with the outcome of this accord.
He explained that an informal understanding between the two countries had always existed, but the new agreement formalizes and strengthens those long-standing ties. Dar further revealed that other nations are also keen to join similar arrangements with Pakistan, though he emphasized it is still premature to comment on those prospects.
The foreign minister highlighted the deep religious and cultural bond that connects Pakistan with Saudi Arabia. “Every Muslim is prepared to sacrifice for the sanctity of the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah,” Dar said, underscoring the emotional and spiritual dimension of the bilateral relationship.
He reminded that Saudi Arabia has consistently extended support to Pakistan in times of difficulty. Recalling past challenges, Dar said, “When sanctions were imposed on Pakistan, Saudi Arabia’s backing proved crucial and irreplaceable.”
Dar stressed that the new agreement reflects mutual trust and shared interests. He expressed confidence that it would open fresh avenues of cooperation while further cementing Pakistan’s ties with one of its most reliable allies.
