The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) in person during the hearing of a case concerning the possible transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to a hospital.
A three-member Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, heard the petition. At the outset, Justice Waheed asked whether any representative of the parties was present in the courtroom.
The court staff informed the bench that Additional Attorney General Rana Asad had marked his attendance but was not currently present in the courtroom.
Justice Waheed directed that the Attorney General should appear before the bench, saying the court would hear all sides after his arrival.
Rana Asad later appeared before the Supreme Court and informed the judges that the Federal Constitutional Court had issued an order a day earlier in connection with the matter. He said the constitutional court had also called for the record of the case.
The additional attorney general then read out the relevant order of the Federal Constitutional Court before the three-member bench.
During the proceedings, Justice Shahid Waheed asked Rana Asad whether the Attorney General was present in his office.
Rana Asad confirmed that the Attorney General was in his office.
The Supreme Court subsequently directed the Attorney General to appear personally before the bench. The court then adjourned the proceedings for a short interval to allow his appearance.
The case relates to the request concerning the hospital transfer of the PTI founder, who remains in custody. The proceedings have gained significance following the intervention of the Federal Constitutional Court, which has sought the case record.
