Security forces kill over 70 militants in Balochistan operations

RAWALPINDI: Security forces have killed more than 70 militants during counterterrorism operations in different parts of Balochistan over the past 96 hours, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing said the operations were launched following intelligence reports about militant hideouts posing a threat to local communities.

According to ISPR, intelligence agencies identified several hideouts in the Shaban area of Quetta district. Security forces launched an operation in Ziarat and surrounding areas on September 21 after receiving information about the presence of militants.

During the operation, troops engaged the militants and cleared several hideouts following intense exchanges of fire. ISPR said 33 militants had been killed so far, while weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered.

The military said the operation was intensified during the following 72 hours. Security forces killed 23 more militants and cleared a large area of militant presence.

The clearance operation is continuing, with security forces conducting searches to eliminate remaining threats and ensure the safety of local residents.

ISPR also reported separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan on September 25.

In Nushki district, security forces targeted a militant hideout and killed 11 militants. In Mand, another operation resulted in the deaths of six militants. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered during the operations, according to the military.

ISPR said more than 71 militants had been killed in Operation Shaban and other counterterrorism operations across Balochistan during the past 96 hours.

The military described the operations as a major setback to militant networks operating in the province. It said security forces were continuing clearance operations to prevent militants from threatening local populations.

The operations are being conducted under the broader counterterrorism framework of “Azm-e-Istehkam”, which was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.

ISPR said Pakistan’s security forces and law-enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations with full determination. The military reiterated its stated commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring peace and stability in affected areas.
