According to details, the former captain and renowned all-rounder visited the UN Headquarters on the invitation of Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
During the meeting at the UN Headquarters, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad welcomed Shahid Afridi and praised his outstanding services for Pakistan cricket.
He said that Afridi captivated millions of cricket fans around the world with his aggressive and entertaining batting, excellent all-round performances and powerful shots bringing pride to Pakistan.
The ambassador also appreciated Afridi’s philanthropic and humanitarian work noting that his social welfare efforts have had a positive impact especially on underprivileged communities.
During the conversation, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad emphasized that sports diplomacy is an effective tool that goes beyond borders and brings nations and people closer promoting mutual respect and understanding.
He added that sports provide a strong platform for promoting peace, goodwill and international cooperation.
