Shan Masood likely to stay Pakistan Test Captain

LAHORE: Pakistan appear ready to place their faith in continuity as preparations intensify for the upcoming tours of the West Indies and England, with indications that Shan Masood will continue as the national Test captain.

The development comes after the conclusion of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s red-ball preseason camp in Lahore, where players underwent extensive training ahead of a demanding overseas schedule.

According to sources, the squad for the two important Test series is expected to be announced on July 6 or 7, with Masood likely to remain at the helm despite speculation surrounding the team’s leadership in recent months.

One of the biggest boosts for Pakistan ahead of the tours is the return of two key players. Sources indicate that Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel have successfully recovered from fitness concerns and are now fully available for selection.

Their return is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s batting unit, particularly in challenging overseas conditions where experience and composure often prove decisive.

The squad announcement is likely to be made through a formal press conference by the Pakistan Cricket Board, with selectors expected to make only one or two changes from the previous red-ball setup.

However, team management is reportedly paying special attention to the conditions expected in both the West Indies and England. Given the pace-friendly nature of pitches in those regions, Pakistan could travel with a larger contingent of fast bowlers to maximize their chances of success.

In the spin department, veteran off-spinner Sajid Khan is considered an automatic selection. Emerging spinner Ali Usman is also being seriously considered as selectors look to add variety to the bowling attack.
