Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a telephone conversation on Wednesday to discuss the latest developments in the ongoing US-Iran peace efforts.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive progress achieved during the first round of technical talks held in Switzerland. They agreed that the momentum created by the negotiations must continue through dialogue and diplomacy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked the Qatari leadership for its strong support and constructive role in the peace initiative that resulted in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran earlier this month.

Both leaders described the progress made during the talks in Bürgenstock as encouraging and important for regional stability. They emphasized that continued engagement between Washington and Tehran is essential to avoid tensions and ensure lasting peace.

The prime minister also appreciated Qatar’s contribution to facilitating diplomatic efforts and praised the close coordination between Islamabad and Doha throughout the mediation process.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked the Emir for his condolences following the death of a Pakistani national in the recent fire incident in Ras Laffan.

He also acknowledged Qatar’s support and hospitality towards the large Pakistani community living and working in the Gulf state.

The two leaders reaffirmed the strong brotherly relations between Pakistan and Qatar and pledged to further expand cooperation in political, economic and regional affairs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan highly values its partnership with Qatar and looks forward to welcoming the Emir to Pakistan later this year.

Pakistan and Qatar have emerged as key facilitators in efforts aimed at easing tensions between the United States and Iran. Their diplomatic engagement has helped establish a framework for future negotiations and confidence-building measures.

The recent talks in Switzerland focused on reducing regional tensions, ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and creating mechanisms to prevent misunderstandings and military escalation.

Further technical negotiations between the United States and Iran are expected in the coming days as both sides work towards resolving outstanding issues through peaceful means.
