Sindh to release government wheat from October 1

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the provincial authorities to start releasing government wheat to flour mills from October 1 to bring down flour prices across the province.

Presiding over a meeting, the chief minister ordered the Food Department to begin supplying wheat to flour mills from the start of next month. He directed officials to increase the supply so that consumers could get flour at lower prices.

Murad Ali Shah said providing affordable and sufficient flour to consumers was one of the provincial government’s top priorities. He stressed that government wheat should translate into lower retail flour prices and directly benefit the public.

The chief minister also ordered authorities to intensify action against hoarders. He said strict measures against stockpiling were necessary to prevent the creation of an artificial shortage and ensure a steady supply of wheat and flour in the market.

He directed officials to complete all procurement and logistical arrangements before the wheat release begins. The mechanism for distributing government wheat from October 1, he said, should be transparent, efficient and properly monitored.

Murad also instructed the Food Department and district administrations to closely monitor wheat and flour prices across Sindh. Officials were asked to take timely measures if prices rise or supplies become inadequate.

The chief minister further said imported wheat could be used when necessary to strengthen local stocks and maintain adequate supplies in the province.

He emphasised that the benefits of government wheat should reach consumers through reduced flour prices rather than being absorbed elsewhere in the supply chain.

During the meeting, the Food Department informed the chief minister that the tender for the transportation of wheat would be opened on September 22, 2026.

The provincial government’s decision comes amid concerns over flour prices and wheat availability
