Motorway Police seize 243kg narcotics on M-2 near Kallar Kahar

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics

ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics through the motorway network, recovering 243 kilograms of drugs from two suspicious vehicles on the M-2 near Kallar Kahar.

The recovery was made during routine patrolling when NHMP personnel noticed two vehicles moving suspiciously on the motorway. The officers signalled the drivers to stop for checking. However, the drivers reportedly abandoned their vehicles on the road and fled from the scene.

The Motorway Police subsequently searched both vehicles and recovered a substantial quantity of narcotics. According to officials, the seized drugs comprised approximately 155 kilograms of opium and 88 kilograms of hashish, commonly known as charas.

The total quantity of narcotics recovered from the two vehicles was approximately 243 kilograms marking a major seizure during an anti-narcotics operation on the M-2.

After completing the necessary legal formalities, NHMP officials handed over the recovered narcotics and both vehicles to the relevant authorities for further legal action. The concerned authorities will also investigate the identities and whereabouts of the drivers who fled after abandoning the vehicles.

IG Motorway Police speaks exclusively to Minute Mirror

Speaking exclusively to Minute Mirror, Inspector General of the National Highways and Motorway Police Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry said NHMP personnel remain on high alert around the clock and are actively monitoring suspicious activity on the motorway network.

The IG said that during routine patrolling on the M-2 near Kallar Kahar, officers noticed two suspicious vehicles and attempted to stop them. However, the suspects escaped from the scene, leaving their vehicles behind.

Chaudhry said the recovery of 155 kilograms of opium and 88 kilograms of charas, with a combined weight of 243 kilograms, was a significant achievement for the department’s anti-narcotics efforts.

He said the seizure reflected the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, stressing that the country’s motorways would not be allowed to become routes for the transportation of narcotics.

The IG further said he had directed all NHMP zones to increase patrolling, checking and vigilance, particularly against suspicious vehicles and activities. He added that the recovered drugs and vehicles had been handed over to the relevant authorities and that Motorway Police would provide full cooperation in efforts to identify and arrest the suspects who fled.
Senior NHMP officer confirms intensified patrolling

A senior NHMP officer told Minute Mirror that IG Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry had issued clear instructions to officers to thoroughly check suspicious vehicles and strengthen intelligence-based patrolling across the motorway network.

The officer said particular attention was being given to the M-2 and other important routes used for long-distance transportation.

According to the officer, the latest recovery was achieved as a result of enhanced vigilance and the implementation of the IG’s directions.

The operation highlights the continuing efforts of the National Highways and Motorway Police to prevent the transportation of illegal drugs through major highways and motorways and to strengthen security and law enforcement across the country’s road network.
