According to foreign media reports, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced the discovery while addressing the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Monday.
The announcement was also reported by Saudi state television. The minister said geological surveys and drilling carried out at the Jabal Sayid project in Madinah had revealed an estimated resource of around 110 million tonnes of raw material.
Prince Abdulaziz said the newly identified deposits contain rare minerals as well as uranium. The discovery is being viewed as a significant development for Saudi Arabia’s mining and mineral resources sector.
