A family legal battle reached a tragic and violent end in the Indian state of Maharashtra when a man murdered his elderly father and wounded his sister in broad daylight, just moments after a court ruled against him in a housing dispute.

The victim, an 82-year-old retired employee of the Water Resources Department, had legally challenged his son two years prior. Driven by a history of repeated domestic abuse, violent behavior, and constant arguments, the father had petitioned the court to evict his son from the family residence.

The court ultimately ruled in the father’s favor, ordering the son to vacate the premises and return sole possession of the home to his parents.

The legal victory quickly turned into a nightmare. As the elderly man and his daughter were traveling home from the courthouse, the disgruntled son intercepted their auto-rickshaw in the middle of a bustling market area. Armed with a knife, the assailant launched a vicious assault on his family members in front of onlookers.

The octogenarian sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, while his sister was wounded during the confrontation. Local authorities have since apprehended the suspect, and a formal investigation into the homicide is currently underway
