Supergirl 2026 is a sci-fi film. The lead characters are played by Milly Alcock (Supergirl or Kara), Eva Ridley (Ruthye) and Mathias Schoenaerts (Krem).
Kara belongs to another planet, Krypto.
However, a poisonous chemical is found under the ground and is causing the people of Argos to fall ill. Under such circumstances, Kara’s parents send her to earth with the advice from her mother to be a ‘good human.’ Kara’s father tells her that she has supernatural powers, which she must use for the benefit of her people.
Kara has a dog named Crypto. Crypto is her only companion, other than Superman or Clark Kent, who is Kara’s cousin. Ruthye’s family is brutally murdered by Krem, and Crypto is shot with a poisonous arrow. Crypto has only 72 hours, and only Krem has the antidote for his recovery.
Both Kara and Ruthye have a common goal: they each have personal reasons for wanting to kill Krem!
But the question is, will they be able to achieve their objective? Will Kara be able to save Crypto and her planet from the evil design of Krem? Will Ruthye, too, be able to get her revenge? Watch the film to find out!
Supergirl is a refreshing addition to DC Studios’ new cinematic universe. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film has received mixed reviews. On the whole, the audience has offered a warm and positive vibe to the film. The film has a runtime of almost 2 hours.
Kara delivers her role beautifully. From being a party girl, she is naturally able to shift her role to that of a supergirl. From being a woman dealing with grief to being a superhero, she changes the perception that a superhero isn’t always without emotions. She is flawed, vulnerable, witty and fiercely determined. She learns what it truly means to be a superhero.
Unlike Superman, who grew up on Earth surrounded by love and hope, Kara remembers the destruction of Krypton and carries the trauma of losing her world. The introduction of Ruthye is a welcoming scene. Kara wants to stop Krem to seek justice for her losses and find healing, while Ruthye is motivated by avenging her father’s death. As they embark upon the journey into space, that journey becomes a journey of justice, healing, and self-discovery.
The visuals are great as the director takes the viewer through different planets with vibrant colours, balancing the setting with the quieter emotional moments.
“Hope isn’t about being fearless. It’s about choosing to fight despite the fear.” This dialogue is at the heart of the film.
At its core, Supergirl is about finding hope after unimaginable loss. It reminds us that true courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to keep moving forward despite it.
On the whole, Supergirl was a promising film that opens up the avenue for more superhero films in the DC universe. With its convincing storytelling, impressive visuals and a great lead character, the film keeps the audience glued to the screen till the very last moment.
