Two Levies personnel injured in Malakand firing

Two Levies personnel were injured after unidentified individuals opened fire on them in Malakand, while a video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The footage shows a man allegedly firing at Levies personnel. According to reports circulating after the incident, the shooter is said to be a security guard of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA and provincial minister Shakil Khan.

Sources said the firing incident has been taken serious notice of at a high level. An FIR has been registered against Shakil Khan and others, and legal proceedings, including arrests, have been initiated.

According to sources, strict action is being taken against those responsible under a zero-tolerance policy. Authorities have directed that those found involved in the incident face legal consequences.

Attempts were made to contact the Malakand deputy commissioner and additional deputy commissioner for their comments on the incident. However, no response was received.

Meanwhile, provincial minister Shakil Khan presented a different account of the incident in a letter addressed to the deputy commissioner and other senior officials.

Shakil Khan claimed that he was travelling home in Batkhela when unidentified individuals in a car opened fire on his vehicle. He said the attackers appeared to be targeting him and his companions.

According to Khan, his security guards responded by firing at the tyres of the unidentified vehicle. He said that during the exchange of fire, his driver sped away and managed to take the vehicle to a safe location.

The provincial minister further claimed that the unidentified individuals intended to kidnap and kill him.

The conflicting accounts have prompted authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the firing. The video circulating on social media and other available evidence are expected to form part of the investigation as officials determine who opened fire and what led to the confrontation.
