CHAKWAL: Two police constables and their alleged accomplice have been booked for allegedly abducting, assaulting and robbing a citizen in the Tatral area.

According to a police statement issued on Wednesday, one of the two constables and the alleged accomplice have been arrested, while police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the other official.

The complainant, a resident of Mohallah Farooqi Chakwal, told police that he was at a student café near Urdu Bazaar when his acquaintance, Raja Nafees of Kot Raja, asked him to accompany him to Tatral (a nearby village of Chakwal) to meet a friend.

The complainant said that when they reached the road leading to Tatral near Zia Petroleum on Jhelum Road, Nafees stopped the motorcycle, allegedly on the pretext of receiving a phone call. He alleged that two men wearing police uniforms and riding a Honda 125 motorcycle arrived shortly afterwards.

According to the complaint, one of the men was carrying a rifle and the other a pistol. The two allegedly took him to nearby fields, where they assaulted him and snatched his iPhone 15 Pro Max and cash.

The complainant further alleged that the men demanded Rs100,000 from him and threatened to shoot him if he failed to pay.

He said that after he told them he had no more money, the two allegedly said they would take him to a CCD police station. He was subsequently made to travel on Nafees’s motorcycle towards the station, while the two men followed them on their motorcycle.

The complainant said the two men turned back when they reached near to CCD police station.

He also alleged that Nafees was not subjected to any assault or intimidation during the incident, leading him to suspect that he had been taken to the location as part of a pre-planned scheme.

The complainant told police that Nafees had asked him for a loan of Rs30,000 a few days earlier, which he had refused. He also alleged that Nafees had advised him to sell his mobile phone.

Police identified the arrested suspects as Constable Saddam Hussain (874/C), posted at City Police Station Chakwal, and Raja Nafees, son of Nasir Ali. The second police official, identified as Constable Mohammad Shehryar (3558/C), posted with the Punjab Constabulary, is yet to be arrested.

Police said the case had been registered on the basis of the available evidence and that further investigation, along with legal and departmental proceedings, was in progress.

DPO Chakwal said police officials would not be allowed to misuse their authority or violate the law, adding that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in misconduct. He said the suspects would be challaned before the court on the basis of evidence and that departmental proceedings would also be pursued.
