The Sindh High Court has taken up the bail pleas of Zeeshan and Sohail, who were arrested for allegedly facilitating accused Anmol alias Pinky.
The court issued notices to the prosecution and the investigating officer. The notices were issued for August 26.
During the hearing, the lawyers for Zeeshan and Sohail denied the allegations against their clients. They told the court that both men are associated with the microfinance business. They claimed that neither accused has any connection with Anmol alias Pinky or drug trafficking.
The defence also challenged the transaction records presented by police. The lawyers alleged that the records had been presented with mala fide intent. They maintained that their clients did not know about Anmol alias Pinky’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking before her arrest.
The defence further claimed that Zeeshan and Sohail were allegedly taken from their homes and later implicated in the case. The lawyers asked the court to consider these circumstances while deciding their bail applications.
The case is linked to an ongoing investigation involving Anmol alias Pinky. Police have alleged that the accused persons were involved in facilitating her activities.
During earlier proceedings, Additional Inspector General Karachi said that Rs30 million had been received in one of Anmol alias Pinky’s bank accounts over a period of one year. The financial transactions have been cited as part of the investigation into the case.
The defence, however, has disputed the significance and authenticity of the transaction record presented by investigators. The lawyers maintained that the financial records do not establish any connection between their clients and the alleged drug-related activities.
The lawyers also argued that their clients should not be kept in custody without sufficient evidence linking them to the alleged offence. They requested the court to grant them bail.
The session court has already rejected the bail applications of Zeeshan and Sohail. The accused then approached the Sindh High Court to seek relief.
The high court has now sought responses from the prosecution and the investigating officer. The matter will be taken up again on August 26.
According to police, cases have been registered against Zeeshan, Sohail and Anmol alias Pinky at Garden police station. The allegations against the accused are yet to be determined by the court.
