GUJRAT: The University of Gujrat (UoG) has improved its position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, securing seventh position among Pakistani universities and fifth in Punjab, while being placed in the 801-1000 global category.
The university had ranked 10th in Pakistan in the previous year’s rankings, indicating an improvement of three positions nationally.
The latest rankings also show a broader representation of UoG’s academic disciplines at the international level, with engineering placed in the 501-600 global category, while life sciences and physical sciences secured positions in the 601-800 category.
In 2025, only engineering at the university had been included in THE’s global subject rankings. The inclusion of three disciplines this year marks an expansion of the university’s presence in the international academic rankings.
According to data released by the university, UoG secured a score of 20.2 in teaching, 13.6 in research environment, 77.8 in research quality, 26.7 in industry and 53.3 in international outlook.
The university said its improved ranking reflected progress in teaching, research, academic development, institutional capacity and international engagement.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zahoor ul Haq said the achievement was the result of the collective efforts of faculty members, researchers and administrative staff. He congratulated the university community and said greater emphasis would continue to be placed on teaching and research.
He said the university would seek to strengthen its academic and research profile further and enhance its international presence.
The inclusion of life sciences and physical sciences alongside engineering in the global subject rankings also indicates a widening of UoG’s research footprint beyond a single academic discipline.
