According to a statement issued by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were conducted to protect commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and further degrade Iran’s military capabilities.
CENTCOM said the operation was also intended as an immediate response to Iranian forces allegedly responsible for attacks on US troops in Jordan the previous night.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that US forces targeted areas near Sirik and struck locations close to the city of Hajiabad.
