US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said Washington continues to work closely with regional partners to prevent any disruption to shipping in the key waterway from becoming a normal or permanent situation.
According to Arab media reports, Pigott said the United States would continue taking firm action against what Washington describes as Iran’s attempts to use disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz to pressure the global economy.
“The United States will not allow Iran to interfere with maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz or hold the global economy hostage,” the spokesperson said.
Pigott stressed that Washington remains engaged with its regional allies to address threats to freedom of navigation and maintain the uninterrupted movement of commercial vessels through the waterway.
