WhatsApp launches 3 new security features for users

Enhanced two-step verification and passkeys

WhatsApp already offers a two-step verification feature that uses a six-digit PIN to help prevent hackers from accessing accounts. The feature has now been enhanced allowing users to choose a longer password containing a combination of letters and numbers making it more difficult for hackers to guess.

Similarly, the passkeys feature is also being improved. Users who rely on passkeys will now be able to add more than one passkey to their account.

According to the company, this feature will be particularly useful for users who use phones running both iOS and Android operating systems.

Passkeys are essentially digital keys that are easy to use and provide greater security because they are not stored on web servers. Instead of a long password, this technology allows users to log in using a four-digit PIN or biometric information.

The third feature is being introduced for Android users. Users will now be able to see more information about calls received from numbers that are not saved in their contacts.

For example, they may be able to find out whether the number is from another country or belongs to someone who is a member of a group that they are also part of. The company said that the rollout of these features has already begun. These features will become available to all users over the coming weeks.
