Why Pakistani students should be discouraged from going abroad

Sir,

I want to raise the issue to establish a precedent to explain why and when Pakistani students should go abroad and when it should be discouraged.

The concept of acquiring better education is not wrong; in fact students should be encouraged to get the most out of their education. Therefore we do not discourage students from going abroad for education, but what we do discourage is settling in foreign countries and not coming back to your country.

Every country contains some of those universities that play a crucial role in developing productive individuals for the country’s success. There are certain educational instituions in Pakistan that existed before Partition and groomed such personalities who made contributions for the whole world. These universities are a true mixture of heritage and spirit of learning. The personalities groomed by these universities contributed to every sector of the country. Students should learn for the spirit of learning rather than just proclaiming universities by their names.

As we all know, for any person, their country should be the most important priority. When a student gets a good degree from a good foreign university, the first thing they do is forget their birth place. They work for the development of other countries while not even thinking about the crisis their country of origin is facing.

The world contains many examples like Sundar Pichai (CEO of Google), Jensen Huang (founder of Nvidia) and many more. In all these examples one element is common that they were born in different countries to the country they found successful. If we take the example of Sundar Pichai who is serving as Google CEO making American tech giants, while his country of origin is still suffering from lack of development especially in the technology sector. Students should be briefed that going abroad to make lots of money is not true success. True success only happens when an individual gets the most out of their education and contributes with their full capacity in the development of their country.

We must always encourage better education, but the concept of not being a pillar for our country’s development is also wrong and students should focus on how to contribute to their respective country’s growth. Whether it is the field of arts, law or science, etc, there is always enough space for development and Pakistan is spacious in terms of contributions.

It is very important to understand that talented students with huge potential are an asset for their respective countries and must fully contribute to their countries prosperity and development.
