PHILADELPHIA: Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has delivered a timely boost for fans, confirming that star forward Neymar is on track to return for the Seleção’s final Group C match against Scotland at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The 34-year-old forward has been sidelined since mid-May after suffering a calf injury, forcing him to miss Brazil’s opening 1-1 draw against Morocco and their dominant 3-0 win over Haiti on Friday. Despite his absence, Brazil have managed to build strong momentum in the group stage, but Neymar’s return remains one of the most anticipated developments of the tournament.
Speaking after the victory in Philadelphia, Ancelotti expressed optimism about the forward’s recovery and outlined a clear plan for his return to full training.
“Neymar will train individually tomorrow, then rejoin the group on Monday, and he will be ready for the game against Scotland,” Ancelotti told reporters, offering the clearest indication yet that the Brazilian icon is close to full fitness.
Neymar has not played for Brazil since October 2023, with his latest setback interrupting preparations for what was expected to be a key leadership role in the World Cup squad. His recovery has been closely monitored by Brazil’s medical team, who have taken a cautious approach to avoid aggravating the injury.
Brazil responded strongly in his absence against Haiti, producing one of their most complete performances of the tournament so far. Goals from Matheus Cunha, who scored twice, and Vinícius Júnior secured a comfortable victory and lifted Brazil to the top of Group C.
Both Brazil and Morocco sit on four points, but Ancelotti’s side lead the group on goal difference, placing them in a strong position to secure qualification for the round of 32.
The Italian manager praised his team’s improved balance and attacking efficiency following a mixed start to the campaign.
“It was a complete match, much better in the first half. In the second half, we had more control, but we created plenty of chances and could have scored more goals,” Ancelotti said.
He added that the performance reflected Brazil’s growing rhythm in the tournament. “It was what we expected from this game: better quality, fewer mistakes, more effectiveness in attack and more control at the back.”
Despite the positive result, Ancelotti stressed that Brazil are still evolving as a unit and must continue improving ahead of the knockout stages.
“In terms of intensity it was a good match. Obviously we still have to improve, and we will improve to be ready for the knockout stage,” he said.
All eyes now turn to Neymar, whose potential return against Scotland could provide Brazil with a major attacking boost as they aim to strengthen their bid for a sixth World Cup title.
