Woman found dead in Rawalpindi home bathroom; husband, domestic worker arrested

RAWALPINDI: A 45-year-old woman, Hina Javed, who had married nine months ago, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the bathroom of her residence in Lal Kurti, within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines Police Station in Rawalpindi.

Police have arrested the victim’s husband, Faisal Asghar, and a domestic worker, Zeeshan, and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to the police report and the first information report (FIR) registered at Civil Lines Police Station on the complaint of Hina’s brother, Fahad Javed, the incident occurred on the morning of August 20.

According to details mentioned in the FIR, Hina’s hands were tied behind her back with a piece of cloth, while another piece of cloth had allegedly been stuffed into her mouth. A wire was also found wrapped around her neck.

The FIR further stated that blood and foam were coming from her mouth. Based on these circumstances, the complainant and police suspect that the woman may have been subjected to physical violence and could have been given a poisonous or sedative substance before her death.

Police said all necessary evidence from the crime scene had been collected with the assistance of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA). The victim’s body has also undergone a post-mortem examination, while chemical and forensic reports are awaited to determine the exact cause and circumstances of death.

Hina’s brother has rejected the possibility that she died by suicide, alleging that she was subjected to prolonged torture and violence before being killed and that an attempt was made to portray the incident as suicide.

According to the complainant, Hina’s husband, Faisal Asghar, was married for the second time. He further alleged that Faisal’s first wife had also obtained a divorce after allegedly experiencing continuous domestic violence and distress.

Police have taken Faisal Asghar and domestic worker Zeeshan into custody and are questioning them as part of the investigation.

In a separate detailed statement issued after the incident, Hina’s family appealed for a transparent and impartial investigation.

The family expressed concern that Hina’s father-in-law, Asghar Ali, who has reportedly been named in the case, has not yet been arrested.

The family urged Punjab Police to take Asghar Ali into custody without delay and ensure that everyone allegedly involved in the crime, including those who assisted in the incident or attempted to conceal evidence, is brought before the law.

Police officials said all aspects of the case were being investigated. They added that further action would be taken after reviewing the post-mortem, forensic and chemical examination reports.

Authorities are expected to determine the precise cause of death and establish the sequence of events through forensic evidence, witness statements and interrogation of the suspects. Until the completion of the investigation and receipt of forensic findings, the exact circumstances surrounding Hina Javed’s death remain under investigation.
