Yemen’s government forces have claimed major military gains against the Houthi movement, saying 1,747 Houthi fighters were “neutralised” during more than 1,100 operations carried out across several parts of the country.

Yemeni military spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili said the forces conducted 1,122 operations against Houthi positions. The campaign focused on weakening the group’s military infrastructure and disrupting its ability to move fighters, weapons and supplies.

According to the military, the strikes targeted artillery and rocket-launcher sites, defensive positions, supply routes and areas used to move reinforcements. Command centres and other facilities linked to Houthi military operations were also targeted.

The operations were reported in Saada, Al-Jawf and Taiz provinces, as well as areas along Yemen’s western coastline. Government forces used a combination of warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, rocket launchers and sniper units during the campaign.

The military also claimed that 364 vehicles and other assets used for transportation, military operations and supplies were destroyed or disabled.

Yemeni authorities said the offensive would continue as government forces seek to regain territory controlled by the Houthis and restore government authority across the country.

Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced a broader military campaign against the Houthis a day earlier. He said the armed forces, security units and other formations had been instructed to move against areas controlled by the group.

Yemen has remained trapped in a prolonged conflict since the Houthis seized Sanaa and expanded their control over several provinces in 2014. A Saudi-led military coalition intervened the following year in support of Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

The conflict has seen renewed fighting in recent months. The situation escalated further in September, when the Houthis reportedly expanded their control around the strategic city of Mokha and advanced towards Mayyun Island near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
