Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson has teamed up with California-based organic retailer Erewhon to launch a special smoothie with proceeds from its sales set to support the Malala Fund’s efforts to expand access to education for girls worldwide.

Named Midnight Sun the colourful pink-and-purple drink takes inspiration from Larsson’s latest album of the same name. The initiative brings together the international music star and Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai around a shared effort to help girls receive quality education.

The smoothie is made with a blend of organic ingredients including coconut milk blueberries bananas whey protein strawberries pineapple mango coconut water carrot juice and vanilla.

Customers can purchase Midnight Sun at most Erewhon locations through the retailer’s mobile application and in New York via Uber Eats and Postmates. Proceeds from the drink’s sales will be donated to the Malala Fund.

Co-founded by Malala Yousafzai and her father, the Malala Fund works to ensure that girls around the world can access 12 years of education. The organisation supports initiatives aimed at removing barriers that prevent girls from attending school and completing their education.

Its work also includes projects in Pakistan Malala’s home country. According to the report the fund has provided Rs95 million in grants to organisations working to improve educational opportunities in Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the organisation has also worked with local partners to provide free transportation for students across 10 districts helping address travel-related barriers to education.

The Malala Fund has extended its support beyond Pakistan. In January it pledged $300,000 for girls’ education and emergency relief efforts in Gaza Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The organisation had also pledged $100,000 in September 2025 to support refugees from Gaza in Egypt.

Meanwhile, Malala has committed $3 million towards efforts to restore girls’ education in Afghanistan where restrictions imposed by the Taliban-led authorities have prevented girls from accessing secondary and higher education.

Larsson’s smoothie collaboration offers another fundraising opportunity for the organisation. By linking a popular consumer product with an educational cause the partnership aims to generate support for initiatives that help girls pursue learning and build better futures.
