LAHORE: The Sahiwal Police, under the supervision of Regional Police Officer (RPO) DIG Rana Ayaz Saleem, has intensified its accountability drive by taking strict action against alleged misconduct and corruption within the department.

In two separate developments within 24 hours, an Inspector was removed from his post following registration of an FIR at his own police station, while an Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) team arrested a Sub-Inspector allegedly involved in accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000.

The actions are being viewed as part of the Punjab Government’s “Corruption-Free Province” initiative and the police department’s policy of maintaining zero tolerance against corruption, misuse of authority, and negligence.

According to official documents, FIR No. 6 was registered on September 3, 2026, at 3:53 PM at Police Station Qabula regarding allegations of wrongful confinement.

The FIR states that on the same day at around 10:00 AM, ASI Rana Muhammad Arshad (No. 419/C), along with other police officials, received information that Muhammad Riaz, son of Muhammad Ayoob and resident of Chak 48/10-R, Sahiwal, had allegedly confined his wife inside a house.

According to the FIR, police officials immediately reached the location. The SHO of Police Station Qabula reportedly arrived at the scene, forced open the door, and entered the premises. During the operation, police allegedly recovered the woman from a locked room and arrested the accused.

A case was registered under Section 342 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), relating to wrongful confinement, along with Section 155-C of the Police Act.

The accused was presented before a court on September 4 for physical remand. The FIR was registered on the complaint of the SHO/Investigation Officer of Police Station Qabula.

Following the registration of the case, RPO Sahiwal DIG Rana Ayaz Saleem ordered the transfer of Inspector Waqas Ahmed, who had previously served as SHO Qabula Police Station and was later posted back to the same station. Sources stated that the officer was subsequently sent to jail.

In another major action, the Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested Sub-Inspector Rana Ashiq Ali Haider, who was serving as In-charge of Mor Khanda Police Post, for allegedly receiving a bribe.

According to the Anti-Corruption report, the official was arrested during a raid while allegedly accepting Rs. 40,000. The team claimed to have recovered the alleged bribe amount from his possession during the operation.

The released images from the raid showed handcuffed hands and a bundle of Rs. 5,000 currency notes, which officials said were part of the evidence collected during the action.

Officials familiar with the developments said the recent actions reflect DIG Rana Ayaz Saleem’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability within the police force.

The RPO office has directed the District Police Officers (DPOs) of Sahiwal, Okara, and Pakpattan to closely monitor the performance of police officials, ensure timely resolution of public complaints, and take immediate action against officers found involved in misconduct or abuse of authority.

The latest measures underline the department’s efforts to improve public confidence, promote merit-based policing, and ensure that no official, regardless of rank or position, remains beyond accountability.
