KARACHI: At least eleven people were injured late Sunday night when a speeding car lost control, left the roadway, and crashed into a temporary tent set up for a religious gathering near Saba Avenue in DHA Phase 6, according to police officials.

Authorities reported that the vehicle, which was apparently moving at a high speed, first hit several pedestrians walking along the roadside before veering sharply and striking a canopy arranged outside an imambargah. The impact caused widespread panic among those attending the religious gathering, as the vehicle continued forward and tore through the makeshift structure.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South, Mehzor Ali, confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, along with two other individuals, was taken into custody shortly after the incident. He added that the number of injured victims initially reported as five was later revised to eleven as more people were shifted to hospitals for medical treatment and assessment of their injuries.

Police officials at the scene stated that early reports underestimated the severity of the accident. As rescue teams and law enforcement personnel arrived and began collecting information, it became clear that a larger number of individuals had been affected than initially believed.

Shortly after the incident, CCTV footage surfaced on social media showing the moments leading up to the crash. The video, timestamped at approximately 9:26 pm, shows the vehicle entering the street at high speed before suddenly losing control. In the footage, the car first strikes pedestrians walking along the roadside, causing them to scatter in different directions in an attempt to avoid being hit. The vehicle then continues uncontrollably into the tented area of the religious gathering, crashing through the structure while bystanders rush to escape the scene.

The disturbing footage highlights the chaotic moments during the accident, with several individuals seen narrowly avoiding impact as the vehicle sped through the crowded area.

Following the incident, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice and sought a detailed report from the Additional Inspector General of Police. According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s House, the CM was briefed that the vehicle’s brakes may have failed, which allegedly caused the driver to lose control before the crash occurred.

The Chief Minister directed law enforcement authorities to ensure that the vehicle involved in the incident was impounded without delay and that the driver responsible be arrested immediately. He also instructed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the accident and submit a comprehensive report at the earliest.

Expressing concern over the injured victims, the Chief Minister extended his prayers and well wishes for their swift recovery. He emphasized the importance of a transparent inquiry to determine whether the incident was caused by mechanical failure or driver negligence.

Meanwhile, police have launched a formal investigation into the crash to determine its exact cause. Officials stated that they are examining both possibilities—technical malfunction and human error—as part of their ongoing inquiry into the tragic incident.
