QUETTA: The Balochistan Health Department has made 32 dialysis centres operational across 27 districts of the province to provide treatment facilities to patients suffering from kidney diseases.

According to Health Department officials, six dialysis centres have been made operational at different government hospitals in Quetta, while dialysis facilities are also functioning in 26 other districts of Balochistan.

The officials said the expansion of dialysis services was aimed at improving access to treatment for kidney patients, particularly those living in areas far from major urban centres. The availability of dialysis facilities in different districts is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances to Quetta or other major cities for regular treatment.

According to the Health Department, around 850 patients are currently registered at 30 dialysis centres operating across the province, excluding the Kidney Centre and Civil Hospital in Quetta.

The department said the dialysis centres are providing regular treatment to registered patients and are part of efforts to expand healthcare facilities for people suffering from kidney-related diseases.

Officials said work is currently underway to establish dialysis centres in Musa Khel and Duki. These centres are expected to become operational by next month, further increasing the availability of dialysis services in the province.

The Health Department also plans to establish dialysis centres in several other districts where such facilities are currently limited or unavailable. These include Qila Abdullah, Jhal Magsi, Surab, Washuk and Lasbela.

Officials said the proposed centres would help provide kidney patients with treatment facilities closer to their homes and reduce the difficulties associated with travelling to distant districts for dialysis.

Dialysis is a regular and essential treatment for many patients with advanced kidney disease. Patients who require long-term dialysis often need to visit a dialysis centre several times a week, making the availability of facilities in their own districts particularly important.

The provincial government’s expansion of dialysis services comes amid efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Balochistan, where geographical distances and limited healthcare facilities can make access to specialised medical treatment difficult for residents of remote areas.

Health Department officials said the establishment of additional dialysis centres would help improve access to specialised kidney care and provide greater convenience to patients and their families.

With the planned facilities in Musa Khel and Duki expected to become operational next month, and additional centres proposed for Qila Abdullah, Jhal Magsi, Surab, Washuk and Lasbela, the provincial government is working to further expand the network of dialysis services across Balochistan.

The Health Department said the initiative would enable more kidney patients to receive regular treatment within their respective districts and strengthen the province’s healthcare response to kidney-related diseases.
