At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting late Friday night in the Coney Island neighbourhood of Brooklyn during the US Independence Day celebrations.
According to New York City Police, officers rushed to the 2900 block of West 31st Street at around 10:37pm after receiving reports of multiple gunshots in the area.
The victims include two men aged 37 and 33, two women aged 25 and 21, and four boys aged 14, 12, 7 and 6. All of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals by emergency medical services for treatment.
Police said seven of the victims are in stable condition, while the 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition.
Investigators recovered a firearm from the scene and launched an inquiry into the incident. However, no arrests have been made so far, and authorities are continuing efforts to identify those responsible.
