India, Japan deepen strategic partnership with $10 Billion deals

India and Japan have taken their strategic partnership to a new level by signing more than 120 agreements and investment projects worth over $10 billion covering key sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), defense, clean energy, advanced technology, economic security, and resilient supply chains.

The announcements came during the **16th India–Japan Annual Summit**, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi with exceptional warmth. During their meeting, Modi referred to Takaichi as his “younger sister,” a remark that highlighted the close personal rapport and growing trust between the two leaders.

Prime Minister Takaichi arrived in India on a three-day official visit. She responded with a heartfelt gesture, recalling former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as her “elder brother” and saying that she now also considers Prime Minister Modi an elder brother. Her comments reflected the strong personal ties that have continued to shape relations between the two countries.

The leaders also paid tribute to the late Shinzo Abe, recognizing his significant role in strengthening India–Japan relations. They praised his vision of expanding cooperation between the two democracies and acknowledged his lasting contribution to regional peace, economic growth, and strategic collaboration.

The newly signed agreements span a wide range of critical sectors. Both countries plan to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, clean energy technologies, critical minerals, defense collaboration, maritime security, economic resilience, and supply chain diversification. They also agreed to work more closely on maintaining a free, open, and stable Indo-Pacific region.

During the summit, Modi and Takaichi reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in response to changing global geopolitical and economic challenges. They emphasized that India and Japan will continue to support each other as trusted partners while promoting innovation, sustainable development, and regional stability.

Analysts believe that the investment commitments, which exceed $10 billion, could significantly strengthen bilateral economic ties while creating new opportunities for trade, technology transfer, and industrial growth. Many experts also view the agreements as an important step toward reshaping Asia’s geo-economic and strategic landscape.

Observers further noted that the strong personal understanding between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi could provide additional momentum to the India–Japan partnership, helping both nations deepen cooperation across security, technology, and economic sectors in the years ahead.
