ISLAMABAD: The federal government has, in principle, decided to change the leadership of Islamabad Police, with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi expected to be appointed Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), highly placed sources told Minute Mirror.

According to sources familiar with the development, Captain (retd) Sohail Chaudhry has emerged as the frontrunner for the post of IGP Islamabad and has reportedly received in-principle approval for the position.

An official notification regarding the changes is expected to be issued tonight, sources said, although formal confirmation from the Interior Ministry and Establishment Division is still awaited.

Sources further claimed that before relinquishing charge as Islamabad police chief, IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi has prepared a list of 63 officers and officials of Islamabad Police for possible deputation to the NCCIA.

Minute Mirror has seen a document titled “List for NCCIA Selection,” carrying the watermark “Rana Ashraf Official,” which contains details of the proposed personnel.

According to the document, the list comprises 63 officers and officials from different ranks. It includes six inspectors, 32 sub-inspectors, 17 assistant sub-inspectors and trainee/personal assistant sub-inspectors, as well as eight constables.

Of the total 63 personnel, 19 have been marked as “Selected Through Interview” in the document. The selected group includes inspectors, sub-inspectors, a P/ASI and constables.

Another 44 officers and officials have been marked as “Willing,” indicating their willingness to serve the cybercrime agency on deputation. This group includes inspectors, sub-inspectors and ASIs/T-ASIs.

The personnel named in the document are currently serving in various wings and units of Islamabad Police. These include Capital Patrolling, particularly the HYD Squad, Rescue 15, Law and Order, the Anti-Riot Force (ARF), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Investigation Wing, including RDU, LDHQ, Traffic, Safe City and the Central Police Office.

Sources claimed that IGP Rizvi is seeking approval of the proposed deputation list before formally handing over charge of Islamabad Police to his successor.

The reported move comes as the federal government considers changes in the leadership of both Islamabad Police and the national cybercrime investigation setup. If the proposed appointments are formally notified, Rizvi would move from the Islamabad police command to the NCCIA, while Sohail Chaudhry would take over the provincial capital’s police force.

However, no official notification confirming the appointments had been issued at the time of filing this report.

The Interior Ministry and Establishment Division have yet to formally confirm the reported appointments and deputation arrangements.

Minute Mirror has also withheld sensitive personal information contained in the personnel document, including dates of birth and educational details, in accordance with privacy considerations.

Efforts were underway to obtain official comments from Islamabad Police Chief Ali Nasir Rizvi and DIG Sohail Chaudhry regarding the reported appointments and the proposed deputation list. Their responses were awaited at the time of publication.

The final decision regarding the appointments and the deputation of Islamabad Police personnel to the NCCIA will become clear once the competent authorities issue formal notifications.
