Funeral prayers for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei were held in Mashhad, where millions of people gathered to pay their final respects.
According to Iranian media reports, a massive crowd attended the funeral ceremony at the Imam Reza Shrine, one of Iran’s most important religious sites.
The streets of Mashhad were filled with mourners as people from different parts of the country joined the final procession. Men, women, elderly people, and children participated in the event to honour the late leader.
The coffins of Ayatollah Khamenei and his family members, including his daughter Bushra Khamenei, son-in-law Misbah al-Huda Baqeri, daughter-in-law Zahra Haddad, and young granddaughter Zahra Mohammadi, were carried through a large mourning procession before reaching the shrine.
Mourners carried Iranian flags, photographs of Khamenei, and banners with messages calling for revenge during the funeral gathering.
Before arriving in Mashhad, Khamenei’s remains were transported from Najaf, Iraq. The Iranian Air Force provided security support and escorted the aircraft carrying the body until it reached Mashhad Airport.
