AJK Election Commission releases revised election schedule

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has issued a revised schedule for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.

According to an official notification, the deadline for submitting nomination papers has been set for June 23. Scrutiny of nomination papers will begin on June 24 at 8am, after which the list of valid candidates will be issued the same day.

Appeals against decisions of Returning Officers can be filed from June 25 to June 28. The Election Commission will hear these appeals on June 29 and 30, while decisions on them will be announced on July 1 and 2.

The final date for withdrawal of nomination papers has been set for July 3 at 2pm. The list of candidates will be published on July 4, followed by allocation of election symbols on July 5. The final list of contesting candidates along with symbols will also be issued on July 5.

According to the schedule, polling for the AJK general elections will be held on July 27.

The Election Commission also clarified that candidates from the Poonch (Rawalakot) region will submit their nomination papers to the relevant Returning Officer, where scrutiny will also be conducted.

A spokesperson for the AJK Election Commission said the schedule was revised after receiving requests from candidates, taking public convenience and feedback into account. He urged all candidates to ensure submission of nomination papers within the stipulated deadline.
