Senior Pakistani sports journalist Qamar Ahmed passes away at 88

Pakistan’s sports journalism community is mourning the loss of veteran cricket writer and commentator Qamar Ahmed, who passed away in Karachi at the age of 88 after battling a heart-related illness.

According to family members, the renowned journalist breathed his last on Thursday. His funeral prayers will be offered after Maghrib at Bait-us-Salam Mosque in DHA Phase IV, Karachi.

Qamar Ahmed was widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s pioneering cricket journalists and spent decades documenting some of the most memorable moments in the sport’s history. His passing marks the end of an era for cricket reporting in Pakistan.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ahmed covered more than 400 Test matches and over 600 One-Day Internationals across the globe. He also reported on numerous International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments, earning respect and recognition from players, officials and fellow journalists alike.

Known for his deep knowledge of the game, sharp analysis and commitment to accurate reporting, Ahmed became a trusted voice in cricket journalism.
