KARACHI: Accused Anmol alias Pinky has approached the Sessions Court South Karachi seeking her acquittal in a drug case registered against her at Guzri Police Station.
The acquittal application came up for hearing before the court, where Anmol’s counsel argued that the prosecution had failed to produce sufficient material to establish the allegations against his client. The defence requested the court to acquit the accused in the case.
After hearing the initial arguments, the court issued a notice to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and directed the prosecution to submit its response to the acquittal plea at the next hearing.
During the proceedings, the defence counsel informed the court that the case against Anmol was registered at Guzri Police Station under provisions relating to narcotics. He maintained that the evidence available on record did not provide sufficient grounds to continue proceedings against his client.
The lawyer also referred to the case of co-accused Ali Khan, who, according to the defence, had already secured an acquittal after the court found the evidence against him insufficient. The counsel argued that the same circumstances should also be considered while examining Anmol’s plea.
The defence maintained that the prosecution must establish its allegations through credible and legally admissible evidence. It urged the court to assess the available material before allowing the case to proceed further.
The court, however, did not pass any final order on Anmol’s acquittal application during the latest hearing. Instead, it sought the prosecution’s response and gave the Deputy Public Prosecutor an opportunity to present the state’s position on the matter.
The court will take up the acquittal application again at the next hearing after receiving the prosecution’s reply.
The drug case against Anmol alias Pinky remains pending before the Sessions Court South, while the prosecution is expected to present its arguments on the defence plea in the upcoming proceedings.
