Bad Bunny makes Emmy history with Super Bowl show

LOS ANGELES: Bad Bunny has added another major achievement to his already remarkable career, becoming an Emmy winner after his Super Bowl LX halftime show dominated the first night of the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

The Puerto Rican superstar, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, won his first Emmy on Saturday, September 5, as the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny collected seven awards at the ceremony held at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater.

Bad Bunny served as both performer and producer of the spectacular show, which won Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Although the 32-year-old singer was not present at the ceremony, members of his production team accepted recognition for the performance.

The show’s seven victories came across a range of creative and technical categories, underlining just how much work went into turning a football halftime performance into a major television production.

Director Hamish Hamilton won Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, while the production also picked up awards for music direction, lighting design, sound mixing and technical direction and camerawork.

The choreography team, including Charm La’Donna and Karina Ortiz, was also recognized for Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming.

The Emmy success gives Bad Bunny another major television accolade after an already eventful year in entertainment. His Super Bowl performance had attracted enormous attention, blending his Puerto Rican identity and music with an elaborate stage production and high-profile appearances.

The achievement is particularly notable because the halftime show was among the most watched and discussed entertainment spectacles of the year, and its Emmy haul confirms that its impact extended well beyond the football field.

Bad Bunny’s victory also adds to the growing recognition of Latin artists on some of the biggest stages in global entertainment.
