QUETTA: The Balochistan Health Department has launched a major disciplinary drive against employees accused of prolonged absence and negligence.

More than 11,000 employees have faced disciplinary action as part of the campaign. The department has also recovered more than Rs290 million through deductions from the salaries of employees found responsible for violations.

Officials said the action was taken to improve discipline within the provincial health system. The department is also seeking to ensure that government employees remain present at their assigned workplaces.

Under the Balochistan Employees Efficiency and Discipline Act, show-cause notices have been issued to 800 employees over absenteeism.

The notices require the employees to explain their absence and respond to the allegations against them. Further action will be taken according to the findings of the disciplinary proceedings.

The department said proceedings against 402 of the 800 employees have already been completed. Disciplinary action against the remaining 398 employees is still in progress.

Officials said the department had also taken strict action against employees who repeatedly remained absent from duty.

More than 100 employees have been dismissed from service because of continued absenteeism and negligence, according to the Health Department.

The disciplinary drive is aimed at strengthening accountability across government health facilities in the province. Authorities have stressed the importance of staff attendance, particularly in hospitals and other public healthcare centres where patients depend on government employees for essential services.

The department has been monitoring employee attendance and performance to identify cases of persistent absence and negligence.

Officials said employees found violating service rules could face disciplinary measures under the relevant laws.
