Barrister Gohar reveals PTI’s plan for September 27 Islamabad protest

Speaking to the media on Adiala Road in Rawalpindi Barrister Gohar said the party was coming to Islamabad to demand its rights and justice rather than create confrontation.

He said PTI welcomed the Islamabad High Court’s recent decision regarding the party’s founder and expressed hope that courts would continue providing justice. According to Gohar the party wants the court’s orders to be implemented adding that PTI had not been allowed to meet its founder for around 320 days.

Clarifying the purpose of the September 27 protest, the PTI chairman said the party would arrive in Islamabad peacefully and would not attempt to break into Adiala Jail. He said the protesters wanted their demands to be accepted and seriously considered.

Gohar said the protest caravan would be led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. He also stated that provincial government resources would not be used for the protest.

The PTI chairman said the party had approached the courts and raised its concerns in Parliament and the Senate but had not received a satisfactory response. He argued that the political situation had reached a point where the state should take steps to rebuild trust.

Referring to the PTI founder’s legal situation, Gohar said he had received seven convictions and faced around 300 cases while spending nearly three years in prison. He called for an end to the situation and urged the authorities to consider shifting the party founder to a hospital for medical treatment as part of efforts to restore an atmosphere of trust.

Gohar emphasized that PTI was a political party and wanted Pakistan to progress. He also said the September 27 protest had been announced before the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Turkiye alliance and maintained that his party had never attempted to obstruct Pakistan’s important diplomatic achievements.

He recalled that PTI had previously cancelled a rally when Iran-US talks were held in Islamabad. He also said the party had cooperated during visits by Iranian and Chinese delegations by sitting together in the assembly.

Gohar expressed disappointment that despite PTI’s willingness to engage, the other side had not shown readiness for meaningful progress. He added that the party remained prepared for dialogue if serious talks were offered.
