Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the future of Kashmir can only be decided by the people of Kashmir. He stressed that no individual, political group or external force has the authority to determine the region’s destiny.
Speaking to reporters in Muzaffarabad, Bilawal said constitutional amendments cannot be imposed through sit-ins, violence or the use of weapons. He urged all political stakeholders to resolve their differences through dialogue, democratic institutions and constitutional means instead of confrontation.
Bilawal also expressed strong support for Pakistan’s armed forces, describing them as the country’s “red line.” He said any attempt to target or disrespect the military would not be accepted. He praised the role of the country’s Field Marshal in maintaining peace and stability, saying his contribution was visible during difficult times.
The PPP chairman said the current situation in Kashmir has caused concern among both Kashmiris and Pakistanis. He added that whenever inappropriate language is used against the people of Kashmir, it deeply hurts the sentiments of those who stand with the Kashmiri cause.
He said the hardships faced by the people of Kashmir are shared by the entire nation. According to Bilawal, political leaders, protesters and public representatives should act responsibly and carefully choose their words to avoid increasing tensions during a sensitive period.
Bilawal strongly opposed violent protests, saying peaceful demonstrations are a democratic right but violence and destruction cannot be justified under any circumstances. He warned that politics based on fear, intimidation or terrorism should never be allowed to take root in Kashmir.
Drawing a comparison with Karachi’s troubled political past, Bilawal said he did not want Kashmir to experience a similar culture of violence. He stressed that lasting peace could only be achieved through dialogue, democratic participation and respect for the rule of law.
Calling for an impartial investigation into recent developments, Bilawal proposed the formation of an independent commission with full authority to examine the incidents. He said all political parties should cooperate with the inquiry while law enforcement agencies must conduct transparent investigations in accordance with the law.
