A woman in Lahore was seriously injured after a man allegedly threw a flammable substance on her and set her on fire following her refusal to marry him.

According to officials, both the injured woman and the accused man were shifted to Jinnah Hospital Lahore for medical treatment after the incident. The accused also suffered burn injuries during the attack.

Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, Hina Parvez Butt, visited Jinnah Hospital and met the injured woman. She inquired about her health condition and assured her that the government would provide all possible support and ensure justice.

She also received a briefing from hospital officials regarding the victim’s treatment and directed doctors and the administration to provide the best possible medical facilities. She emphasized that any negligence in the victim’s care would not be tolerated.

According to the details shared by officials, the woman was taking her four-year-old son to a religious school when the accused allegedly stopped her on the street and began harassing her. When she raised an alarm, the suspect allegedly threw a flammable substance at her and set her on fire, causing serious injuries.

Authorities said a case has been registered against the accused at Factory Area Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway.

Officials further stated that the suspect had previously been married twice, but both of his wives had reportedly left him and returned to their parents’ homes. Afterward, he allegedly developed a relationship with his neighbor, a mother of three children, and pressured her to marry him after ending her previous marriage. When she refused, the accused allegedly reacted violently.

Hina Parvez Butt condemned the attack, stating that harassment, pressure, and forcing women into marriage are serious crimes. She said strict action would be taken against those involved in violence against women.

The Punjab Women Protection Authority has assured the victim of legal, medical, and other necessary support. The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding harassment, violence, and the need for stronger protection measures for women. Authorities have reiterated that individuals involved in such attacks will face legal consequences.
