Lahore: The Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) held an important meeting at its head office in Lahore, bringing together Women Protection Officers from all districts across Punjab to review ongoing initiatives and strengthen efforts aimed at ensuring the safety, protection, and well-being of women throughout the province.
The meeting was chaired by Director General of the Punjab Women Protection Authority, Dr. Lubna Nazir, who emphasized the organization’s continued commitment to providing timely, effective, and high-quality protection services for women facing violence and abuse. The session focused on evaluating district-level performance, improving service delivery mechanisms, and exploring ways to enhance coordination among departments responsible for safeguarding women’s rights.
During the meeting, participants reaffirmed their collective resolve to utilize all available resources to ensure that women across Punjab receive prompt assistance, legal protection, and access to support services whenever needed. District Women Protection Officers also shared updates on their ongoing work, discussed operational challenges, and exchanged ideas to further improve the effectiveness of protection services at the local level.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lubna Nazir said that, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, making Punjab the safest province for women remains one of the Punjab Women Protection Authority’s highest priorities. She stressed that achieving this goal requires dedication, professionalism, and close collaboration among all district offices and relevant stakeholders.
Dr. Nazir instructed district Women Protection Officers to further strengthen services related to women’s protection, assistance, rehabilitation, and welfare. She highlighted the importance of ensuring that these services remain accessible, efficient, well-coordinated, and responsive to the needs of women seeking support.
The Director General also underscored the need for district offices to enhance their institutional capacity by improving coordination with law enforcement agencies, social welfare departments, healthcare providers, legal aid organizations, and other relevant institutions. According to her, stronger partnerships between government departments and community organizations are essential for delivering comprehensive protection services and responding swiftly to cases involving violence against women.
She further emphasized that every district office must make full use of its available resources and continuously improve its operational capabilities to provide immediate assistance to women in distress. Strengthening institutional networks, improving response mechanisms, and ensuring effective implementation of protection laws were identified as key priorities during the meeting.
Dr. Lubna Nazir also reiterated the importance of translating the vision of PWPA Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt into practical action by creating safer environments for women across Punjab. She noted that eliminating violence against women requires sustained efforts, public awareness, and strong institutional support to ensure that victims receive the protection and assistance they deserve.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to uphold women’s rights and improve the quality of protection services throughout the province.
