Blake Lively reacts to tragic deaths of Hayden Panettiere and Michelle Trachtenberg

Blake Lively has shared a heartfelt message following the tragic death of Hayden Panettiere, while also remembering her late friend and former co-star Michelle Trachtenberg. The actress used the emotional moment to encourage people to show more kindness and compassion toward one another.

Lively shared a video on her Instagram Stories featuring scenes from the 2005 Disney movie Ice Princess. The film starred both Panettiere and Trachtenberg, who played rivals before their characters ultimately became friends. Lively appeared alongside both actresses in the movie, making the footage an especially meaningful reminder of their connection. 

Alongside the video, Lively expressed gratitude for the joy the two women had brought to audiences. She also urged her followers to “be kind,” highlighting the importance of remembering that people may be dealing with private struggles that others cannot see. 

Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36. The actress was known for major roles in Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise. Her family described her as a “force of nature” who brought immense love and joy to those around her. 

Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief from friends and former co-stars. Connie Britton, Viola Davis, Selma Blair and several other stars have shared memories of Panettiere, remembering her talent, warmth and determination. 

For Lively, the loss also carried echoes of another heartbreaking Hollywood tragedy. Michelle Trachtenberg, who worked with Lively on Gossip Girl, died in February 2025 at the age of 39. Lively previously paid tribute to Trachtenberg, describing her as a deeply kind and fiercely loyal person whose presence could immediately change the energy in a room. 

Trachtenberg’s death was later determined to have resulted from complications of diabetes. Her passing deeply affected the Gossip Girl cast, with Lively among those who publicly remembered her. 

By placing Panettiere and Trachtenberg together in her latest tribute, Lively appeared to reflect on the fragility of life and the importance of appreciating people while they are still here.

Her message comes at a difficult time for Panettiere’s loved ones and fans. The actress had recently opened up about her life and struggles in her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, giving audiences a more personal understanding of the experiences behind her public image.
