Reports claiming that Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie spent $500,000 on private investigators to locate her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, have been publicly dismissed by NewsNation senior national correspondent Brian Entin.

The speculation emerged last month amid growing public attention surrounding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing since February 1, 2026. Several reports alleged that Savannah had hired a team of private investigators and invested nearly half a million dollars in an effort to uncover new leads in the case. However, Entin has now confirmed that those claims are inaccurate.

Speaking during an appearance on Jesse Weber Live, Entin addressed the rumors directly and clarified that no such expenditure had taken place.

“There’s something I wanted to clear up,” Entin said. “There was a report that Savannah Guthrie had hired private investigators—and I think the report said she spent around $500,000 on private investigators. I was always very skeptical of that claim.”

He continued by revealing that he had independently verified the information and found the reports to be false.

“I’ve now confirmed that is not true. Savannah Guthrie did not hire private investigators, and she did not spend $500,000 on private investigators,” Entin stated.

According to the journalist, Guthrie continues to place her trust in law enforcement agencies handling the investigation. Entin explained that the case remains under the jurisdiction of the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with no involvement from privately hired investigators.

“It seems she still has confidence in the FBI and the local detectives working on the case,” he said. “Right now, it is the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI that are investigating.”

As the search for answers continues, Savannah recently shared an emotional message on social media reflecting the pain and uncertainty her family has endured during the past several months. Posting on Instagram on Sunday, she uploaded a piece of religious artwork accompanied by a heartfelt plea.

“Oh my, my soul it cries out, soul, it cries out,” she wrote. “Bring her home.”

The post quickly drew attention from supporters and followers, many of whom expressed sympathy and offered prayers for Nancy’s safe return.

Entin also acknowledged the emotional toll the disappearance has taken on the Guthrie family. While discussing the case, he reminded viewers that behind the headlines is a family experiencing profound grief and distress.

“Sometimes I also like to have a moment to remember that there’s a family hurting right now,” he said, emphasizing the human impact of the ongoing investigation.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026. More than four months later, authorities have yet to identify a suspect or determine what happened. Investigators continue to pursue leads, but the case remains unsolved.

In an effort to encourage new information, the Guthrie family has announced a reward of $1 million for information leading to Nancy’s safe return. The FBI has also offered an additional $100,000 reward and is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
