ISLAMABAD: A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court challenging the alleged solitary confinement of Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistani prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, her legal team said on Saturday.
According to the application, Bushra Bibi is being held in solitary confinement in violation of her constitutional and legal rights. The petitioner argued that the conditions of detention have adversely affected rights guaranteed under Pakistan’s constitution.
“My mother has been kept in illegal solitary confinement,” the petition stated, adding that the alleged restrictions have severely impacted her fundamental rights.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the decision to keep Bushra Bibi in solitary confinement unlawful and unconstitutional. It also urged the court to take immediate notice of the matter and issue directions for the termination of the alleged isolation measures.
The filing marks the latest legal challenge involving Bushra Bibi, who has faced multiple court proceedings alongside her husband since his removal from office in 2022.
The petition asks the Islamabad High Court to examine the legality of the detention conditions and ensure compliance with constitutional protections afforded to prisoners and detainees.
Court officials have not yet announced a date for hearing the petition.
Authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the application.
The case is expected to draw political and legal attention given Bushra Bibi’s status as a prominent figure associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), one of the country’s largest opposition parties.
Further proceedings will determine whether the court seeks responses from prison authorities and government officials regarding the claims raised in the petition.
