Citizens demand relief after petrol price hike

Citizens have called on the government to reduce petroleum prices after a major increase in petrol and diesel rates.

People expressed concern that rising fuel prices are making daily life more expensive. They said every increase in petroleum prices affects transportation costs and leads to higher prices of essential commodities.

Consumers warned that the latest fuel price hike could trigger another wave of inflation. They urged the government to take immediate steps to provide relief to the public.

The government recently increased petroleum product prices by a significant margin. According to the official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol prices were increased by Rs13.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel became more expensive by Rs13.80 per litre.

Following the increase, petrol is now being sold at Rs310.71 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has reached Rs323.30 per litre.

Citizens said higher fuel costs put additional pressure on household budgets, especially for low and middle-income families. They added that expensive fuel increases the cost of transportation, which directly impacts prices of food items, goods, and services.

Many people demanded that the government review petroleum pricing policies and provide relief to consumers facing rising inflation.

They said controlling fuel prices is essential to stabilise markets and reduce the financial burden on the public.
