LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the immediate establishment of Model Agriculture Malls in 10 additional districts across the province, expanding the initiative following the successful launch of the flagship project in Sahiwal.
The initiative aims to facilitate farmers by providing modern agricultural machinery, quality farming inputs, technical assistance and financial support under one roof, while promoting innovation and improving agricultural productivity across Punjab.
According to official details, the Chief Minister inaugurated four major development projects worth Rs 5.61 billion during her visit to Sahiwal in the third week of October. These included the Model Agriculture Mall, Maryam Nawaz Sports Arena, the beautification of Model Saddar Bazaar and the 27-kilometre Sahiwal-Arifwala dual carriageway.
During her visit, Maryam Nawaz inspected modern agricultural equipment, including harvesters, planters and drone-based spraying machinery. She also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the agricultural initiative and directed authorities to accelerate its expansion to other districts.
Model Agriculture Malls in 10 Districts
Under the Chief Minister’s special instructions, construction of Model Agriculture Malls has been ordered on an urgent basis in the following districts:
Jhang, Faisalabad, Renala Khurd, Khanewal, Jampur, Burewala, Sadiqabad, Muridke, Pindi Gheb and Mianwali.
The expansion is aimed at extending modern agricultural facilities to farmers in different regions of Punjab, enabling them to access essential services without having to travel long distances.
Modern Facilities Under One Roof
Officials stated that four Model Agriculture Malls are already operational in Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and Sargodha. Each facility features nine shops, a dedicated area for displaying heavy agricultural machinery and a training hall to educate farmers about modern cultivation practices.
The government plans to replicate the same model in the newly selected districts, offering a range of facilities designed to address longstanding challenges faced by the farming community.
Under the one-window operation, farmers will be able to purchase certified seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and agricultural machinery at government-notified prices. The system is intended to discourage the sale of counterfeit and substandard agricultural products.
Quality testing laboratories will also be established to ensure the standard of seeds and fertilisers, while agricultural experts will provide free guidance on soil testing, pest management, crop protection and improved farming techniques.
Financial Assistance and Machinery Access
The malls will also facilitate farmers through dedicated counters for the Kisan Card, Green Tractor Scheme and interest-free agricultural loans.
Modern machinery, including harvesters, planters and drone sprayers, will be made available on rental basis, particularly benefiting small-scale farmers who cannot afford expensive equipment.
The Punjab government believes the initiative will reduce agricultural costs, save farmers’ time, improve per-acre production and strengthen the province’s agricultural economy.
The expansion reflects the provincial government’s broader strategy to modernise agriculture and promote farmer welfare under the vision of “Har Kisan, Khushhal Kisan.”
